COUSTEAU teamed up with the EMBLAS Plus project, funded by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), to create an exhibition  on the state of the Black Sea consisting of 5 infographics in the form of panels.  The main objective of this project is to help improve the protection of the Black Sea, with its unique characteristics, by collecting data to establish a general consensus on the state of the Black Sea and carrying out local actions which raise the awareness of the public and decision makers.

Depuis l'incendie qui a bloqué l'avancement des travaux sur Calypso, les dégâts ont été évacués et la coque  reconstruite presque  au stade ou elle était au moment du sinistre, par Equipe Cousteau. Après l'incendie, le procureur les procédures administratives et juridiques ont été lancées et pendant près d'un an le hangar était inaccessible tandis que divers experts analysaient les lieux. Ce n'est qu'en fin août dernier que les cendres et autres débris dans le hangar ont pu être nettoyés, suite à quoi les travaux ont pu reprendre. Aujourd'hui Equipe Cousteau estime que la coque est pratiquement  reconstruite  au stade ou elle était au moment du sinistre. Calypso est en sécurité dans son chantier en Turquie. Dès que les assurances auront réglé les dommages nous reprendrons la reconstruction. En attendant elle est sous bonne garde.  L'objectif de l'Equipe reste le même, cela prendra le temps nécessaire.  Equipe Cousteau rappelle qu'aucun financement des travaux ne vient de France et qu'aucune subvention publique n'est acceptée par Equipe Cousteau qui est une Association indépendante. Rappel des faits. Mardi 12 septembre 2017, à 2h30 du matin, un incendie a endommagé la légendaire Calypso, située au sein d’un chantier naval en Turquie où elle est en cours de rénovation depuis 2016.  Une enquête policière est actuellement en cours pour déterminer l'origine et la nature de l'incendie. Aucune perte humaine n’est à déplorer et l’étendue des dommages est en cours d’évaluation.  Toutefois, il apparaît que les éléments historiques du navire sont intacts, ce sont certaines des nouvelles parties en bois du navire qui ont été affectées. Le feu a eu lieu à un moment crucial de la restauration, alors que la partie en bois de la coque venait d'être terminée, après des mois de travaux passionnés et méticuleux effectués par les charpentiers.  Cet incendie entraînera un retard dans la rénovation de la Calypso, mais il ne remet pas en question le processus de réparation de ce symbole mondial de la protection de l’environnement. "Cette situation renforce ma détermination à mener à bien la volonté du Commandant Cousteau pour que la Calypso navigue à nouveau. Je me bats depuis 20 ans pour protéger le patrimoine légué à ses associations par le Commandant. C’est une mission passionnante, complexe, et quel qu‘en soit le prix, le temps, les obstacles, je n’y renoncerai jamais. Pour Calypso nous avons un excellent chantier, des équipes de direction dévouées, des charpentiers de marine motivés, exceptionnels, qui travaillent avec amour et talent. Pour eux, pour tous ceux qui ont manifesté tant d’espoir à voir ce navire reconstruit, je veux réussir ce travail. » a déclaré Francine Cousteau, présidente de l’Equipe Cousteau.



À l’occasion de la Journée mondiale de l’océan célébrée aujourd’hui, COUSTEAU est heureux de vous présenter le projet Hermès, un projet environnemental pionnier initié par Cousteau Divers et soutenu par notre partenair IWC Schaffhausen. Cette organisation a l’intention d’étudier les effets du changement climatique en mesurant la température sous la surface de l’océan. À cette fin, les données fournies par des capteurs de précision seront combinées aux mesures effectuées par des milliers de plongeurs amateurs. L’objectif est de permettre aux scientifiques de mieux comprendre l’impact de la température de l’océan sur la biodiversité et le climat. L’océan absorbe environ 90 % de la chaleur de la planète et produit plus de la moitié de l’oxygène que nous respirons. Il agit comme un système de climatisation pour la Terre et nourrit des centaines de millions de personnes. La température de l’océan représente un facteur primordial pour comprendre comment il emmagasine et libère l’énergie. La communauté scientifique a cependant besoin de davantage de données pour obtenir une vue d’ensemble complète sur les variations de température de l’océan en profondeur, en particulier au niveau des écosystèmes côtiers où se concentre la grande majorité de la biodiversité marine.

Equipe Cousteau et The Cousteau Society sont heureux d’annoncer un partenariat avec National Geographic pour un film  documentaire sur Cousteau. L’œuvre présentera des images inédites du Commandant Cousteau grâce à un accès exclusif aux archives de Cousteau Society. "Pendant  la majeure partie de l’Histoire, l’Homme a dû combattre la nature pour survivre ; dans ce siècle, il commence à comprendre que pour survivre, il doit la protéger. " Jacques-Yves Cousteau National Geographic a choisi de faire du célèbre explorateur Jacques-Yves Cousteau le sujet de son prochain film documentaire. Liz Garbus (The Farm, Angola USA, What Happened, Miss Simone? ; deux Emmy Awards, deux fois nominée aux Oscars) sera la productrice et réalisatice du film, en collaboration avec Dan Cogan (Icarus) et Evan Hayes (Free Solo), tous deux récompensés aux Oscars.

  Cousteau Society signe un accord important avec le Gouvernement Maltais pour une exposition sur l'histoire de la Calypso au Musée Maritime de Malte.   Malte, état insulaire au cœur de la Méditerranée ayant 10 000 ans d'histoire, va offrir une exposition majeure sur le thème des explorations de la Calypso.   Le navire mythique du Commandant Cousteau est un ancien dragueur de mines en bois construit en 1942 à Seattle.   Envoyée à Malte pendant la guerre elle a ensuite servi de ferry entre l’ile de Malte et une ile voisine : Gozo.   Elle fut alors nommée Calypso en mémoire de la nymphe qui retint Ulysse prisonnier et vivait à Gozo.

We have the immense sadness to learn of the disappearance of Jean-Louis Teicher, who was a radio operator aboard the Calypso. The Cousteau team shares the grief of his family and friends and wishes them all our condolences.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Paul Zuena's disappearance. Paul Zuena was one of the emblematic boatswains of Calypso and Espadon for more than 20 years. Trained by the highly respected Maurice Léandri when he joined the team in April 1960, he quickly became a respected boatswain and took the start of numerous scientific and cinematographic expeditions. Paul Zuena, very proud to be the boatswain of the mythical Calypso, was on board when in 1969 it went through Seattle, the port where she was built in 1942.
